The Alan Partridge Sound Bath Garden

This award-winning garden was designed for the RHS Hampton Court Garden Festival by Joe and Laura Carey of Carey Design Studio and brought to life by the Landesigns team. The garden centres around and has been devised by the iconic TV character, Alan Partridge, combining elements of functionality, structure, and aesthetic appeal to represent his character.

It aims to create a sensory-rich experience for visitors and tell a deeply meaningful story through every planting design, hardscaping installation and unique feature.

Project Overview

This award-winning project was designed to be a celebration of British and regional culture, using the character Alan Partridge as the primary image. It relies on locally sourced materials and engaging sensory features to create a memorable adventure for visitors and guests of the RHS Hampton Court Garden Festival.

Created by GardensDB take a look at a 360 tour of the award-winning garden below.

Award-Winning Garden Design

For this garden, the aim was to reflect the iconic TV character’s values and represent his essence in an innovative, engaging platform. The primary layout of this garden is a structured, geometric one to represent the themes of practicality and functionality.

The garden was brought to life using locally-sourced materials, such as Norfolk-grown Larch from Alan Partridge’s filming locations for the fencing, and British limestone paving and gravel for an accessible pathway. The handcrafted sign from Dartmoor provides a rustic balance to the otherwise contemporary garden design. All metallic elements within this garden design are the same distinctive gold colour used on Subaru GC8 Impreza alloy wheels, as a subtle reference to Alan Partridge’s meticulous attention to detail.

Recycled plastic used on the signs represents the durable and practical values of the character, while also supporting the sustainable goals of landscapers.

For planting, a combination of native species, such as field maple and Verbascum pulverulentum, was incorporated as both local and cultural references. Additional planting in the form of yarrow, Digitalis, Scabiosa (pincushions), and wild fennel was carefully chosen to reflect the natural colours and textures of the Norfolk landscape.

Finished Result

This was a Gold Medal Winner at the 2025 RHS Hampton Court Garden Festival, thanks to a successful combination of strategic design and premium landscaping. Every material within this garden design was chosen with a shared purpose to represent the heritage, practicality, and overall story of Alan Partridge, which made an impact on visitors and judges alike across the Show.

From the sustainably sourced timber to industrial metal finishes, this award-winning garden successfully represents both local pride and national culture, while remaining true to the iconic character that inspired it.
